| To make the Card of the Week more interesting, I decided to start doing a review of the card we choose.
Each week, I'll write or post a review of the chosen card here.
Card History: 4/14/13 - Future Visions 4/21/13 - Relinquished
----------------------------------------------------------------- Hello everyone! Nottu here with this week's new Card of the Week review. This week I thought we would take a look at an older card that came out in Magic Ruler (Spell Ruler): Pegasus' ace monster, the mighty Relinquished.
Now Relinquished is a Ritual Monster, and we all know that that means he needs a Ritual Spell card to play. However, there are several ways to play him. Let's look at the three main cards used to Summon him.
1. Black Illusion Ritual. The basic, the original, the spell mentioned in his text. Nothing to say here.
2. Contract with the Abyss. If you run a lot of Level One monsters, this card is perfect. It can Ritual Summon DARK Ritual monsters as long as you tribute the EXACT amount of levels for them.
3. Advanced Ritual Art. Same as the above, but you can only use Normal Monsters. A really good idea if you're playing Traditional as you can run THousand Eyes Idol. However you can also run this combination with a Skull Servant deck. Alternatively, you could use FLamvell Guard which is also a Tuner and has a strong DEF.
Why Relinquished? Even if the monster on the opponent's field isn't a massive beater, it will still likely have an effect that is just mucking up your plays. Cards like Stardust Dragon or Evolzar Laggia (if Relinquished was out prior). Relinquished will just absorb whatever is causing the problems and clear the field for you. He is by far the easiest Ritual monster to play and has a great effect.
Some good combos with Relinquished.
The Dark Door will ensure that Relinquished remains on the field even if he is attacked by something that destroys his current Equipped monster. Additionally, you will get an even stronger monster afterwards.
Ritual Summon him using Djinn Releaser of Rituals will shut down your opponent's means of Special Summoning. This limits them to their 1 Normal Summon a turn. You could also run Secret Village of the Spellcasters with the above idea, which will protect Relinquished from Dark Hole, Book of Moon, Soul Taker and other spells as well as lock the opponent from using any spells until they can summon a Spellcaster.
Lava Golem and Volcanic Queen are some fun ideas. They are easy answers to problem monsters such as Evolzar Laggia and will give Relinquished 2500 or 3000 ATK when he absorbs them.
Relinquished creates a strong attack-lock with Scrubbed Raid. During each Battle Phase (your opponents or your own, after you've attacked), use Scrubbed Raid to send the equipped monster to the Graveyard and end the Battle Phase. During your next Main Phase (1 or 2), activate Relinquished's effect to take another monster and equip it. This creates a -1 for your opponent every turn. Even if you equip Relinquised with a weaker or face-down monster, it doesn't matter because Scrubbed Raid will prevent all attacks and Relinquished will be equipping a new monster next turn anyway. When combined with the effect gained by tributing Djinn Releaser of Rituals, your opponent will be relying on spell/trap destruction to break the lock.
Using "Emergency Provisions" with Relinquished (especially with a chain to go with it) will give you LP and allow you to steal another one of your opponent's monsters (assuming at least a turn has passed since your last steal).
If Relinquished is equipped with a suitable monster, it can be used to pay the cost for "Deck Devastation Virus" or "Eradicator Epidemic Virus". Again, "Lava Golem", "Volcanic Queen" and "Grinder Golem" can be useful here.
Djinn monsters are prime candidates for Ritual Tributes as they can be used from your Hadn, Field, or even the Graveyard.
Preperation of Rites can be useful as it can grab a Black Illusion Ritual from the graveyard and then search for a Second Relinquished. Card Rating: 8/10.

| Haha. I thought it might make the COTW seem more relevant and less random and awkward. |
