| Synergy? What is that?Today class were going to talk about Synergy! Synergy is how well cards can work together, and can interact with another to do combos, peform actions in yu-gi-oh. An example of this would be equipping United we Stand to any monster in your deck that can be equipped to it. Say we have 3 United we stands, and 20 monsters in your deck, that can interact with this card. But wait! There are 19 other cards that can't interact with your United We Stand ( the other 2 copies + any other card that can't interact with United We Stand). This is where Synergy kicks in. We are going to calculate how much of your deck that can work with United We Stand. 1st we must understand combinations (being that cards that can interact with one another), and permutations (cards that can't interact with one another). CombinationsUsing the example above, (3/40) cards of the deck were United We Stand. (20/40) were cards of the deck that you can use United We Stand on. 3x20=60 meaning 60 different combinations in which you can use United We Stand. Permutations3x19= 57 permutations, meaning 57 different combinations where you can't use United We Stand with. Calculating Synergy57+60= 117 describing the different amount of synergy with each card of the deck. Now to finish this off, to calculate the Synergy of your card with your deck you take the number of combinations of United We Stand that is compatible with the deck (60) and divide by the total number of of combinations with permutations (117). 60/117=.51 (to the nearest hundreths place), and multiply this by 100 (for a percentage)= 51%. This means that United We Stand has synergy with 51% of your deck. To check your work use your permutations (57), divided by 117. 57/117=.49 (rounded to the hundreths). Take that and multiply it by 100, for a percentage of 49%. 49%+51%=100%, and you see how much of your deck can work with United We Stand, and what part of your deck cannot. 51% of your deck has synergy with United We Stand. Let's take a further look into synergy...Shall we? 3 Targets (Each Descendant) Multiplied by 10 ( 2 Commandant, 3 Recruiter, 3 Spy, 2 Descendant) = 30 combinations. Each Descendant (1) x 29 (other cards that you cannot use Descendant on also including that Descendant can't use its effect on itself) = 87 permutations, or cards that aren't compatable with Descendant. 30/117=.256 x 100= 26.6% Synergy Descendant has with the deck. 87/117=.743 x 100= 74.4% cards that aren't compatible with Descendant. In conclusion, Descendant can work with 26.6% of my deck, while it can't work with 74% of my deck. Conclusion All in all this is great for deckbuilding, as it helps you with knowing how to ratio your cards, and try to fit cards in with your deck, including techs and such. It also helps with understanding how cards work in combination of a strategy to help you win the game. Things like understand how and why Gravekeeper's Descendant is always used @ 3 in a GK deck (as it helps you destroy cards that are brutal to GK, and push better for game, a strategy). This is a very important technique for determining how to keep your deck consistant and not always losing because you start to draw dead throghout the game. Everyone wants a concsitant deck, and even though not everyone may use this method, it is great for improving on deck building becoming a better player in the game of ygo. Not only will you learn what cards are good and bad, but logic and theory will aide you greatly. You'll be an encyclopedia always understanding why cards are good in a deck, bad, and how to make your combo based decks amazing, as well as how to work your strategy. Still confused? Steps on how to calculate synergy1. Pick a card of your deck and count how many of that card you have. 2. See how many cards in your deck are compatible/ can use your effect on that card. 3. Multiply the number of copies of that card x the Cards that you can use the effect on it (excluding 1 copy of itself if you can't use its effect on itself). 4. Multiply the number of copies of that card x the cards that you CAN'T use an effect of that card on. 5. Add the number of Combinations + The number of Permutations. 6. Take the combinations, and divide it by the number you received in Step 5, and Multiply it by 100 for a percentage. 7. To check your work, take the number of permutations, and repeat step 6. Add both the percentages you received from step 6 & 7, and see if you can round it off to 100%. If you can you did it correctly. EDIT: Take note that when you are calculating Synergy. It is best to multiply 1 copy of a card x the number of cards you can use its effect on (if you have multiples), and add them together for total combinations and permutations for said card. Homework! For Homework, I would like you guys to take a screenshot of one deck you have, and calculate Synergy of a card with the rest of the deck. I would like a detailed explanation of how you got to your answers and both of the percentages of what cards are compatible with X card and what cards aren't compatible with X card. Since this might be a bit complicated for others, I'm awarding 250 OD for each member who can do it correctly. This Homework is due Friday, April 26.

| 1 target (zephyros) multiplyed by 12(3 bora,3 kalut, 2 blizzard, 1 gales,1 foolish, 2 icarus attack )=12combinations. 1 x 16=16premutation 12 + 16=28 12/28=0.428 x 100=42.8 rounded=43 16/28=0.571 x 100=57.1 rounded=57 43 + 57=100 in conclusion elite has a synergy of 43%. He can work with 43% of my deck, the other 57% of my deck doesnt work with elite *note this took me forever to do i was really confused* thanks alot blazer for guiding me throught it |

It doesn't matter about drawing, it's about how much of your deck works with one card and quite frankly, I believe you are trolling me. |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGf31s16K5s [/quote] I looked at your video, and it was a good attempt. Now this isn't exactly what I meant by Synergy. You want to think "how many cards can I use X card's effect on my other cards in my deck", not necessarily "how many cards affect X card". So, you want to pick a card that has an effect. For example, I added " Rescue Rabbit" to your deck. Rescue rabbit would have 3 targets, because Elemental Hero Sparkman is the only vanilla you have with a set of 2 or more targets (assuming all 3 targets are in your deck).

For this example of Synergy I will be using Haze(Hazy) Beast Peryton.
In total, there are 23 cards my 3 Perytons can work with(3 Blaster 2 Cerberus 3 Spinx 2 Gryps 3 Firedog 2 Burner 1 Pyrorex 2 Reasoning 1 Averice 1 Foolish Burial 1 Monster Reborn 3 Hazy Pillar and 3 Hazy Glory). 3 Multiplied by 27 = 81 combinations. This is the amount of combinations I can do with Peryton.
3 x 13 = 39. This is the Premutation combinations I can do with Peryton, or the amount of combinations I cant use with Peryton.
39+81=120. 81/120=0.675 or 0.68% Rounded.
In conclusion, Peryton can work with 68% of my deck, while it cannot work with 32% of my deck.
#FrostAndFlame Combinations will only work with the cards that you can use "Peryton's" effect on. Meaning that the combinations work for All the monsters that are FIRE, and any Hazy Flame monsters that you can ss from your deck (assuming we aren't playing in game and just looking at your monsters as a deck alone). |

*note this took me forever to do i was really confused* thanks alot blazer for guiding me throught it Alright so think as if you were Zephyros, and you had to count all the cards you could use Zephyros effect on (in other words targets for Zephyros's effect). Meaning cards that you can return to your hand, to special summon Zephy from the grave. Thats a huge amount of cards right? 19 cards ( 2 Sirrocco, 3 shura, 3 bora,3 kalut, 2 blizzard, 1 gale, 1 breeze, 1 vayu, 1 gorz, 1 DAD, 1 Whirlwind). Multiply 1 Zephy by 19 cards you can use it's effect on, and that gives you 19 combinations. 1 x 21 (including Zephy himself) are the cards you can't use Zephy's effect on. That might help you out a bit more. |
