This is a continued discussion from the topic Copyright Issues Concerning Role Play 2. In this topic it was mentioned that some members wanted to participate in a YuGiOh RP. I'd like to move the discussion here so as not to fly too far off topic in the discussion in the other topic.

I am by no means saying I'll create an RP, but if a great idea comes to me, I may put in the effort for one...

Now, what I am thinking is to create, perhaps a month-long event. There would be some type of crisis or civil war or something big to make everyone in Orichalcos Duel Academy like... hate each other, or choose sides. Perhaps a revolt against Sylveraine, the Headmaster, and a conflict between his followers and the anarchists. Or perhaps there's this group of bullies or cult members or something in the school that the students are trying to exile or defeat. Whatever the idea, I think it'd be a good idea to have it actually take place in Orichalcos Duel Academy.

Now, a few questions for you:

• Would you participate in something like this?
  
• Do you like any of the current ideas mentioned?
  
• Do you have any ideas of your own?
  
• Would you be willing and competent enough to spear-head this event?

3. Yes. We could all have a monster that kills cards in your opponent's deck. The opponent isn't allowed to use the monster that was killed by the card killer in his future duels. He has to replace that card with a card from extra. Aditional rules may be made like you can't kill more than 2 monsters per duel.

1. I certainly would participate in an RP here. Restricting it to a single month, though, given relative activity... Might be a bit too short. Just maybe. Your opinion might (or rather, clearly does) vary.

2. I'm cool with the bullies/cultists take. I like not to draw my RP material from actual things that people still are or very recently were emotional about, so I'm not big on the revolt idea. (Though if it makes you feel any better C.C., I'd be on the loyal side.)

3. Hm... This could work with any of the other RP ideas or spawn its own thing, but what if all the duelists are descended from dragons or giants or some other specific mythical creature? Maybe multiple, but not so much variance that one player is descended from a relatively weak creature like a serpent while another is trying to play a descendant of a god. Neither of those is unacceptable if everybody is descended from such a powerful or weak being, but the important thing is that one player doesn't try to lord over other players and assume greater power on account of their being descended from something stronger. Anyway, whatever creature(s) we choose for people to be descended from battled by calling forth spirits and monsters and casting actual spells and having their human armies on the battlefield set traps, and when these creatures died, their summoning and spellcasting abilities were sealed in cards that their (now mostly human) descendants can use to replicate those ancient battles. This turns Duels into actual battles taking place on large terrains, and dueling itself becomes an abstraction for a huge battle. Playing monsters is summoning creatures, activating spells is casting them, laying traps is commanding your forces to fight or set up magical items to spring in battle, so on so forth. This does come with the implication that duelists will have small military forces or at least servants with them at all times, which you might or might not consider a problem. It does give more power to the players in a literal sense, though, and makes it much more reasonable that actual problems can be solved with duels.

4. Heh... I can help, but... I've never spearheaded an RP before, and I don't want to tank our academy's first.

First after the reboot. The success of this is going to have just as big an impact on this site's future as if it were our first (which may admittedly still be small) so I'm choosing to treat it as such.
