So I'm working at a few of my decks tweaking nit picky things. I want to hear from people on the extent of a few cards. The basic question here is... continuous or quick?

Royal Decree v Trap Stun
Fiendish Chain v Breakthrough Skill
Stygian Dirge v Mischief Of The Yokai

Some people prefer one, some prefer the other. The ability to have turn after turn of negation of traps, or just one turn? Negating a monster's effect for good, or just for that turn and being able to use it from the grave? What do you guys think is better? If so, name a few examples yourself or elaborate on the ones given. I myself am personally a fan of cards like Breakthrough Skill and Trap Stun because of the mass amount of spell/trap destruction these days in the game.

What do you guys think?

Decree (End phase, they cant activate nothin Neutral )
Fiendish (Only cause they also can;t attack)
Yokai (sometimes speed is better....)

i agree with everything Yuya just said with this: breakthrough and yokai are troll traps lol. still, like fiendish better and never liked dirge. and i'll finish that fiendish is better cuz magic planter target. and decree is obviously better then trap stun so no talking here

I'm scared of running Fiendish anymore because there's always that opponent with Lance or MST ;~;

Lance only works till the end phase Very Happy and if they waste MST on that, less of them for you to worry about.

Do you think it compares to Breakthrough being able to be used from the grave? I'm pretty sure you can't chain anything to that tbh. I think that's how people get over walls like Herald .-.

Breakthrough cant be used in grave the same turn its sent there anyways plus it can only be used on your own turn XD. Its really more for mill decks

I just always hated being MST'd or Lanced, not to mention when the card is overlayed, synched, etc

By that logic breakthrough isn't as good either. You have to expect them to do one of those things. It's gonna happen Neutral but you make them waste more resources like that Razz . And soon....they have nothing to fall back on and you can annihilate them Twisted Evil

Yea that's true. Fiendish v Breakthrough is the main thing I was looking for debate over tbh. I'm questioning my tactics of using it in like all of my main decks. I used to run Fiendish over Breakthrough but I started to like it and if my opponent MST'd it I could give a shit less because I could just use it from the grave if they summoned a monster like Beelze, Herald, etc. Now idek ;-;

well again its more or less what deck your playing if its one that benefits from stopping atks or may even have a second use for a trap that stays on the field (Scraps5ever) play fiendish. If your deck dosnt care too much about atks but needs an extra way to stop problem monsters (most of my decks have a shit ton of removel so i never really need to negate effects on my own turn) run Breakthrough.

Yea that's true. Like I used to run Fiendish in my old Mist Valley (rip) because Falcon + Thunderlord could literally recycle it every turn and created a loop. That was the one deck I beyond all means ran Fiendish over Breakthrough but besides that I mostly ran, and still do run, Breakthrough. I know I should really do Fiendish though :/

Honestly it's situational.

Maybe your deck needs to rely on decree because you have little to no back row hate beside that. Cuz it's a turbo deck or something of the like. The ability to keep it on the field in that case is invaluable. Same with fiendish. It let's you stall out.

Now the up side to stun and breakthrough is they can't mst them unless they hit them while they are set. But say you have a set trap stun on your turn and they have a set mst. You just draw QuickDraw synchron into a hand with level eater and synchron explorer. Well if you had decree, and you try to go off. They can mst, then hit your synchro summons with traps. Where as if you flip that trap stun, your more or less safe to do as you please and bring out quasar (with a few noticeable excepting like book and such) same goes for breakthrough. Those cards just have the advantage of leaving the field and letting you possibly end the game that turn, rather than hoping your opponent doesn't have a way to get rid of your big continuous trap.


So in the end, both methods are good. You just really have to tune it to your deck, your play style and possibly most notable of all though the hardest to predict, the decks you will be facing.

it's just one turn vs lot of turns but most players will try to remove their chained monsters

Most of my decks need the Perma to help with plays. As for Yokai, sometimes reducing all is worse than reducing one....

Reduce 1, they have to find something else to sync/xyz with.

Reducing all...they have to use something else to xyz summon. Against a deck that like, only uses 1 rank of xyz, dirge is great. But against a deck that has all sorts of ranks...EX: Rank 5,4,3. It's absolutely useless Very Happy and if they can change levels.....forget about it Neutral (I hate you too Kaus.)

The thing I like about Yokai though is that its two levels as opposed to one from Stygian. Using Stygian works but the fact that it can be MST'd and that some decks are very adaptable (Consteller, Geargia, etc) makes it almost not worth it. I like using Yokai personally because lowering their monster's levels by two makes it very hard to overlay. Like, most rank 5 able decks don't run rank 3s, most rank 4 decks don't run rank 2, etc. If someone is running xyzs they possibly have + or - a rank option in their extra deck but like 99% of the time never + or - two.

I really prefer Decree over Stun. Stun is nice because it can chain against its own destruction and still work, but Decree can sit pretty and stop their traps for a longer time.

Fiendish Chain over Breakthrough for me any day. Its less expensive and halts their attack as well as stop their effect.

No opinion on the last ones.
