In this thread I'm gonna be posting the custom cards I've made. I'd very much appreciate any comments, criticisms, suggestions, anything of the sort. I aim to make it so that all of my cards I make would be balanced if they were to be TCG legal.


First up, we've got an archetype known as Sonaris. This archetype is based on a Naval fleet. It uses radar to reveal the identity of cards that would normally be concealed from your knowledge. It then uses that knowledge to stop threats to you before they even reveal themselves. Your opponent will be at your mercy, unable to even stage a surprise comeback.





Sonaric Battleship (Water, Machine, lvl 4, 1700 atk, 800 def) Once per turn: You can target 1 face-down card on the field and declare a card name; Reveal that target. If that target has that name: Destroy that target. If it does not: Set that card back to its original position. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.

Sonaric Carrier (Water, Machine, lvl 6, 1600 atk, 2250 def) Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. When this card is Normal Summoned or Flip Summoned: You can add one Sonaric card from your deck to your hand.

Sonaric Depth Charge (Trap) Target 1 face-down card on the field and declare a card name; Reveal that card, and if that card has the declared card name, destroy it. If it does not: Set that card back to its original position.

Sonaric Deep Dive (Trap) You can only activate this card when a "Sonaric" monster you control is selected as an attack target. Negate that attack, and if you do, flip that attack target into face-down defence position.

Sonaric Dreadnought (Water, Machine, rank 4, 2400 atk, 1800 def. 2 level 4 "Sonaric" monsters) When this card is Xyz Summoned: Look at all face-down cards on the field. Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Set card your opponent controls; destroy that target. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect. When this card inflicts battle damage to your opponent's life points: You can destroy one face-down card on the field.

Sonaric Frigate (Water, Machine, lvl 4, 1200 atk, 700 def). Before damage calculation, if this card attacks a face-down monster: Destroy that monster.

Sonaric Patrol Boat (Water, Machine, lvl 4, 1000 atk, 1000 def). If a face-down card on the field has been destroyed by a "Sonaric" card you control this turn: You can Special Summon this card (From your hand). You can only use the effect of "Sonaric Patrol Boat" once per turn.

Sonaric Recon (Spell card) Target 1 "Sonaric" monster you control. Flip that target into face-down defence position, and if you do, Look at one face-down card your opponent controls.

Sonaric Scanner (Continuous Trap): During the end phase of either player's turn, You can look at each face-down monster on the field.

Sonaric Submarine (Water, Machine, lvl 4, 1000 Atk, 1700 Def) Once per turn: You can change this card to face-down Defense Position. When this card is flipped face-up: You can target 1 face-down card on the field; Look at that target

Sonaric Supercarrier (Water, Machine, rank 4, 0 Atk, 2450 Def. 2 lvl 4 water monsters) When this card is Xyz summoned: You can target 1 face-down card on the field; look at that target. You can detatch 1 Xyz material from this card; Special Summon one lvl 4 or lower "Sonaric" monster from your graveyard in face-down defence position. You can only use this effet of "Sonaric Supercarrier" once per turn.

Sonaric Trackership (Water, Machine, level 4, 1400 atk, 1200 def) When this card is Special Summoned by the effect of a "Sonaric" card: Look at 1 random card in your opponent's hand.

Sonaric Tugboat (Water, Machine, lvl 2, 500 atk, 500 def) During either player's turn, you can Tribute this face-up card to Special Summon any number of "Sonaric" monsters destroyed during this turn from your Graveyard to your side of the field.

See, originally I kinda thought it might be, but it has to stay on the field for its effect. So your opponent can play around it by killing Tugboat first, since it's a 500 atk 500 def monster. Plus it's lvl 2 so can't be used for the xyzs.

Pretty neat idea in my opinion. They all seem pretty balanced and quite an original idea. I'd like to see these go face to face with mecha phantom beasts, lol. If I could make my own personal suggestion, these would be mine:

Sonaric Interception: (normal spell card) If you control a face up "Sonaric" monster; target one set spell/trap card on the field and declare it's type. If the declared type if correct, destroy it. If it is not destroyed: set it to it's original position. Your opponent cannot activate that card in response to this card's effect.

Sonaric Hidden Missile: (trap card) Activate only when a face up "Sonaric" monster is destroyed by a card effect. Discard 1 "Sonaric" card; look at your opponents hand and target one card: return it to the bottom of the deck.

Sonaric Warzone: (field spell card) During each of your standby phases, you can target one set card on your opponents side of the field: destroy that target. You must control a face up "Sonaric" monster to activate and resolve this effect. Once per turn, you can discard one "Sonaric" card from your hand to the graveyard to target one set card your opponent controls and declare a card name, reveal that target, and if it had the declared card name: destroy that target. If it does not, return it to it's original position.

Sonaric Undersea Grave: (trap card) Activate only when your opponent destroys a "Sonaric" monster by battle and sends it to the graveyard. Target one "Sonaric" monster in your graveyard; special summon it. That monster cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects until the end phase.

I can't really think of any others at the moment but theres a start :3

I quite like those card ideas Fluff, though Hidden Missile scares me a little. It looks to be right on the line between balanced and broken. That and personally, I'd rather see Undersea Grave be lvl 4 and under, or just lvl 4, because bringing out Carrier and searching stuff that easily could be a bit iffy. I really like the idea though, because it reminds me of Pinpoint guard, which was actually a card I was thinking of with this deck

Great Ideas. Imma try to help this cuz they're machines. Razz How about this:

Cant really decide on name, something like a Commander: (Water, Warrior/Union, Level 6, 200 ATK / 100 DEF) Once per turn: you can equip this card to a "Sonaric" monster you control OR unequip and Special Summon this card in Attack Position. While equipped to a "Sonaric" monster, when that monster's effect or atbefore,jtack destroys a face-down monster; Draw 1 card. If the card drawn has "Sonaric" in his name; Set one monster your opponent controls face-down.

It's late, and I haven't had much experience making legal cards before so forgive any broken or weird text. Idk fully about the usuall Union text with the "Equip OR Unequip" effect.

I think there should also be like a huge boss monster to add to the mix of this too. Something that would like take 3 Sonaric monsters to special summon. I'd think more on it but my creative juices this early in the morning are shot ;-;
