I know locals isn't as important as regionals or YCS, but I felt like posting it since this is my 3rd time going to locals and actually winning it. I only got to finals in Wind-Up Format, and ofc lost to Wind-ups. There were supposed to be 4 rounds of Swiss and the guy ended at 3, giving 2 3-0 people top 2. I ended up 2nd do to the tie-breaker. BUT me and the other guy who got 3-0 decided to play it out and do our own finals. I won 2-1, making me be the guy with 4-0 and essentially winning. I got 5 dollars in store credit (2nd place in system), and a booster pack of 3 cards for entering.
So, today I wake up and I was just playing some Smash Bros Brawl. Randomly I thought, I should go to Atlantis for local tournament today, and set-up my deck instead of having half proxied Tempest Dragunity deck XD. Luckily, my parents decided to drop me off in the morning at around 10:30 AM EST. The store didn't open until 11, so I sat at Burgerking, had breakfast and headed back to the store.
I go in the store trying to legitimately rebuild a deck before locals as it starts 6:30 pm EST. I wanted to judge for youth league, but they didn't have anymore spots to be a KDE judge in training. I decided to hit the bus and go to walmart and get Chaos Dragon starter decks, and hopefully really low budget the deck. Unfortunately, the only decks at Walmart were the new Blue Eyes starter decks. boo =l. I ended up getting the battle box set with a playmat, getting something to eat and got back to the store at 5:30 EST. After a few trades the store owner announces that I need to sign up NOW for the tournament or I won't be able to play. Right now, i'm panicking as I don't have a deck made atm, so I resulted to my only option...going back to an updated "dragunity stun deck" that took me to Finals during Wind up format. I will show the decklist later, but its hilarious that I won with the deck lol. Made some quick final touches and here comes the 1st round.
Round 1, Ninjas : I win the dice roll, Yay! And go first. I summon tour guide, but scared because it always ends up that my opponent has hand traps, and I don't even have a single hand trap in my deck lol. No response. I go for tour bus, and Special Summon Zenmaines in def ; set forbidden chalice and pass. My opponent says "Alright, lets go mirror" and summons tour guide. I chalice it. Then he uses Creature Swap. "in my mind im just thinking I have to get over this wall with legion and double knock it out is my only choice". Next turn he sets a monster. I activate ravine, and search for Aklys (I normally do this so I don't end up -1 if I don't have anything to use it, and just ditch and search legion). I summon kycoo and attack his facedown. Upstart with 1800 def lol. Nothing happens. He then rams and I don't use kycoo and detaches my tour guide. He goes and pops my face-down, and I chain mst and destroy his field spell "Mist valley" and punish it. I wonder why he didn't get rid of kycoo. I finally get off legion and pop zenmaines as well as upstart. Get rid of Zenmaines by attacking with Kycoo and banishing his tour guide and upstart. I also shuffle with my Tour bus, tour guide back into the deck. Shortly after, I take the game after a few turns.
Game 2: He starts off with hanzo and searches transformation and sets one. Draw phase he tributes and activates transformation. I chain mst in hand. "You can't do that" I lol'd and said "its a quickplay in my hand on my turn. I can use it". Free damage time! I normal summon kycoo and swing for 1800. Can't banish anything so I set 2 backrow including mst and pass. He uses duality and searches a hanzo. goes for hanzo again and passes. I let it go through cuz I thought it would have to be Dark Sigmorph or something as he had mist valley on the field, so I held off mst. I go for a tour guide play and he negates with Mist valley Avian. Shortly after an EP mst on his valley and a legion + aklys play took the game for me.
Round 2, Lightsworn Darklord Synchron deck; Don't ask but he was one of those guys that was a non-meta this non-meta, but yeah deck doesn't make much sense but It kinda works. Malicious and such.... He wins die roll and goes 1st.
G1: he summons lyla and passes milling a malicious. I normal summon Mecha beast phantom tether wolf, ss a token and ram keeping my wolf on the field; pass turn. He opened nuts, cuz next turn he literally used up a crap load of draw power mill half his deck. SS unknown synchron, then ss malicious. Summons blackrose, nukes the token only. Then he summons Dark Creator with exactly 6 darks. Banishes and summons Superbia. Then uses superbia and gets back Zerato from grave. He sends to the graveyard a dark monster and destroys my wolf. Then otks for game...
G2: I brought it back as he got locked into 2 malicious in hand and 1 in grave. No good plays at all gg.
G3: I top that pachy in my hand and just straight up win with backrow covering pachy and using floaters like Card Trooper, Kycoo, and win because he can't summon anything good. gg
Round 3; Rainbow Neos Heros. He wins Die roll and asks to go 2nd. He also wants to go 2nd in g2 lol.
G1: I set snowman eater and 2 s/t and pass turn. He normal summons Ice edge, then uses mask change. I respond with Compulse, and making his play stop. A few turns after I setup zenmaines + Stardust and snowman eater still on field, he makes rainbow neos via polymerization and sends all my monsters back to the deck. Runs into a mirror force. Now the game is basically reset. He tops miracle fusion and goes absolute zero. He kills a kycoo I had b4 (in which I banished both rainbow dragon and neos). I dark hole next turn, make a tour guide play for zenmaines and pass. He tops another miracle and makes Shining, and swings. Well during EP I popped it and he made a terrible misplay. By now hes in 900 LP line and I swing with zenmaines for game.
G2: I side soul drain just for Shining as its the only real threat that i can side against besides neos. He opens crap and I take it easily with "floaters". Zenmaines, trooper, and set backrow just took the game. No plays form him.
Right now I'm 3-0 and the host for the tournament decides to leave it at 3 rounds. I get 2nd to tie-breaker. The winner decides to play me to see what would happen if we played. He hasn't lost 1 single game yet with his deck. It was as much BS as mine, but much more concise and really an anti-meta killer.
Round 4; Lockdown deck
G1: I win die roll and go 1st. I set a monster and 2 backrow and pass. He sets 1 monster and 4 br and pass.. I am scared D:. In draw phase he activates spatial collapses then activates ojama trio and im like "you going to let me respond?". He resolves and after resolution of effects I active mst, he bribes and the gamestate becomes "open" again. I set 1 and realize I lock myself. My opponent plays cannon and after a couple turns I scoop as theres nothing I can do. Cant suicide a def monster GG.
G2: I actually had to legit side lol. Sided 3 dust and 2 royal decree. I always have royal decree for BS chain burn, chain beat, anyhong jus abusing traps etc lol. Its locals I was prepared. G2 I won with royal decree simple as that. He scoops.
G3: We go stall for turns and set 4. After a whole i had like 2 mst, 2 dust and a royal decree set. He locks my field with 3 tokens and i start beating down with d.d warrior lady and kycoo. He sets defender and i take famage after turns of swift scarecrow. Next turn I attack defender, he uses skill drain, i chain royal decree, banish defender and take the game with kycoo. Woot! "He talks about how he didnt get prohib g3 for royal decree lol. I ha dust and mst so not sure how much it would have changed the gamestate. Funny cuz I didnt draw any dragunity plays that match. I drew alklya but was locked g1, so not much mattered. I was excited winning 4-0, and my opponent said "u won with a bull****" deck. He shook my hand, said gg and smiled.
On a funny note: when i was in match 2, the opponent who lost to me was playing a fire king user for round 2. The fire king user eventually says "if you lost 1sr round, whoever you were playing was extremely good, or u were drawing bad, or a combination of both". I chuckled a little XD. The guy i lost 2 was going nuts. Good thing I dont misplay with mst. People dont realize that MST is the card that wins you the most games if used correctly in formats like this.
