| Subject: Dueling Exposed! - Topdecking / Heart of the Cards Sat May 25, 2013 12:49 am | |
| Hello, and Assalamu Aleikum to you all! I’d like to introduce a new Idea I’ve been thinking about recently that I’d like to call: Dueling Exposed! Welcome to the first article.
The cause : Recently, I’ve noticed that there has been quite a few people who claim that Yugioh is ‘Just a game’. While I agree with this statement, to an extent, I’d like to argue that Yugioh can be scientifically explained and theorised just as much as it can be played.
Reasoning for this article : Recently, a debate over the Heart of The Cards and Topdecking has occurred. An argument was proposed that the Heart of the Cards does exits, and that it is practiced when we ‘Topdeck’ the card we need. As a result, I’d like to relate the ‘Topdecking’ Concept to a few Quantum Theories, and how it can be explained.
So withought further ado, Let’s Expose Duel Monsters!
Question : What is topdecking?
Topdecking, also known as ‘Sacking’, is the ‘lucky’ act of drawing a game-changing card from the top of a players deck in an unfavoring position. Pretty simple huh? So, how can we explain this in Science? Well, to answe this, there are two crucial things that must be understood:
Quantum Mechanics, and Schrodinger’s cat.
Quantum Mechanics : A particle can be at two or more places at once, untill measured by an observer, in which it is forced into one spot. An otherwords, a particle can be at two or more places at the same time untill observed, by then the position is revealed.
Schrodinger’s cat : If you were to put a cat into a box with a vile of lethal poison that could go off at any random moment, and you were to close the box withought opening it, that cat would be in a superposition of both Dead and Alive at the same time.
Whyre these two important?
Well, they both relate to the concept of Topdecking. Let’s hypothetically say that Samantha and Ronald are dueling. Samantha has put Ronald in a position in which the one card that can save him and allow him to win is Monster Reborn. Samantha ends her turn. Now, the one hope for Ronald is that he topdecking Monster Reborn.
Now, let’s also apply the fact that the current May 2013 is aplied on Ronald’s deck. In adition to this, let’s say that there are currently 40 total cards in his deck. Now, by simple math, as Monster Reborn is a limited card, logic would provide that he has a 1/40 chance of drawing Monster Reborn. This is we apply Quantum Mechanics.
By Quantum Mechanics, a particle can be at two or more places at the same time, untill observed or measured by an observer, In which case It is forced into a position. Well, this can be substituted with nearly any situation (nearly, not every). In this case, lets apply it to topdecking.
If you were to replace it with topdecking, it’d read “A card can be at two or more places in your deck at the same time, untill observed upon by an observer, in which case it’s position is revealed.”
By relating Quantum Mechanics to Ronalds Monster Reborn position, Monster Reborn is just as much the card at the top of his deck as it is the card at the bottom of his deck. How? Each position has a probability, and each probability must be acounted for. Monster Reborn is just as much at each of these 40 positions in Ronalds deck as it isnt at these positions in his deck.
This dosent change the absolute probability. He still has a 1/40 chance of drawing Monster Reborn. However, the top card of his deck, by Quantum Mechanics, is and isnt Monster Reborn, at the same time. It is in a superposition, untill Ronald draws, and the top card of his deck is forced into revelation.
By this logic, the Heart of the Cards does exist: However, it may not always be in our favor. In Ronalds case, there is a 1/40 chance that the Heart of the Cards may be on his side.
To conclude, I’d like to give a quote by Albert Einstein in relation to Quantum Physics. “I don’t believe in Quantum Physics, because I’d like to believe that the moon is still there, even when I’m not looking.”

Heart of the cards, as used here, is used as a substitute for luck in Topdecking. Regardless, they both exist, however, the term for it may be different. |

| O_o i think youve sort of reverse engineered the Heart of the Cards. Science just has to unravel one the most precious of things to me.-_- |

| Why, thank you One Valkoor, I suppose, in a way, science does have that effect on the world? eh? I feel that the 'Heart of the Cards' is somewhat childish in nature in itself, is it not? |

| this was pretty good, what does the cat thing have to do with it though you didn't explain that? or did i just miss it? |

| The cat and particles stuff about two places at once was explained with the Monster Reborn card.
Also, i dont think its childish to have such a faith in your deck Rose. Got a Heart of the Cards in both me and my Deck, and im proud it. |

Shrodinger's Cat Paradox was the example he was using about the cards in the deck being both on top and not on top. For all intents and purposes, with this paradox, you must consider each card on the top of your deck to be each possible card and simultaneously not each card. |
