The Similarities of Dragonball and naruto

Okay, first thing I will say is that I am not trying to prove that Naruto is a ripoff of DBZ, I did this solely to show the similarities I found and am not trying to make a Fan-war of any kind. Secondly, I am open to hear your counters/comments to what is posted here! I don't mind! If it can be backed up or disproved, say so! Thirdly, just enjoy the read, its just for fun.

Like many peoples outta there , I too grow up watching Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z . For the sake of safety I will not include DBGT since it was a disaster .

And like many others , I too heard and read comments saying that DBZ is similar to Naruto . Some disagree saying that they have nothing in common and others keep bashing either Naruto or DBZ on which is best .

What I hated the most in the comment I saw , was that either group never stated the WHY naruto or DBZ was better . As in , if you disagree with something at last take the time to form an accurate (with proof) as to why you think that DBZ is better then Naruto and vice versa .

I on the other hand , will not go and say which is best since I grow liking very much Naruto and cannot wait for the next coming episode . Also DBZ had a great impact on me like many others fans and I will not let go just because it’s old and out dated . No way in hell !

But I will list here some similarity between DBZ and Naruto that I found , feel free to disagree/correct , and if you know of any others similarity between the two add it in your comment .

Naruto Uzumaki is described as : hyperactive , stupid and a very noisy ninja . His hair was blonde , with blue eyes and a big smile .

Goku on the other hand , thougths he share the noisy and hyperactive part that’s where it stop . Yes when he was young he was very short , but unlike naruto he will grow to be a tall man . Also , his natural hair is black with dark eyes . His hair unlike Naruto will always remain the same because of his saiyan heritage and turn blonde only when he become a super saiyan .

Like Goku , Naruto Uzumaki share the passion of eating and his favorite food seem to be Ramen .

Goku had a legendary passion for food , and lacked in manner due to the way he was raised (in the wood) . But unlike Naruto , we all saw that Goku could eat almost anything even if he found that the food was ‘Lousy’ as he stated when he was staying with King Kai. He even ate a cloud for pete sake on snake way!

Naruto like Goku had a perverted teacher , in the case of Naruto he met and was taugth by Jiraiya who he call Ero-Sennin . (yes I watched the Subbed version!)

That’s where I found most similarity actually, between different characters.

Jiraiya called Ero-Sennin was like Master Roshi in many ways . Both though the strongest the way of the ninja in Naruto case , and to be the best fighter in Goku case. They were both pipe smokers , and enjoyed a smoke outside in the breeze. Both of them were strong , though Jiraiya was more handsome looking then Roshi was . But both of them shared the same lust for women. Both of them shared this weakness toward women, and if they see a pair of Boobs their noses start bleeding in a comical way.
Jiraiya was the master of Toad and a hermit . All along the series he summoned differents toad to his aid and passed the technique on Naruto.

Roshi did have the title of Master and hermit due to his way of living alone and training with turtle shell . But beside the turtle that lived with him, we only saw him call upon another turtle to fly and that was it.
Unlike Roshi, Jiraiya was in a 3 cell team making him friend with Tsunade and Orochimaru.

Jiraiya rival and friend was Orochimaru, and we learn later that he did regret his failure at stopping Orochimaru from becoming a villain. Thus why he traveled keeping an eye on him and his movements.

Young Roshi had a rival also known as the crane hermit . He will show later, betting his students against Roshi’s student. Like Jiraiya he too lost his friend to evil, Roshi hinted that when they faced King Piccolo is when he lost his friend. The reason would be seeing their master defeated by King Piccolo , but was it power that changed him, that still remain unclear.

Sakura Haruno was part of Naruto and Sasuke team. Later she become a medic ninja and inherit Tsunade brute strength.

One thing that puzzle me greatly, is the amount of hate this charachter attracted. Yet again , commentator did not offer any plausible explanation beside that she was a ‘bitch’, and even then I do find the argument weak at best.

Like Bulma from DBZ , she was very smart . She start off as a self centered person, and as she grow up she become to see the light and start acting more mature.

From the beginning of the series, Sakura had a huge crush on Sasuke Uchiha wich till this day remain intact . Add to that she wasn’t alone dreaming about the lonely survivor of the Uchiha clan.

But unlike Vegeta who started as the bad guy and then with time turn moderately good. Sasuke was a good guy that choose the evil path for his vengeance.

And for those who think that Sasuke is the equal of Vegeta in being a villain, sorry to kill that idea but the only common thing they have is that both lost their home.

The whole clan of the Uchiha for Sasuke, and Planet Vegeta for Vegeta. Well it’s true that they are both arrogant and look down on Naruto/Goku, but I don’t think they are at the same level. Neither in power or way of thinking.

Another thing that the two mangas had in comment was that the women were few , and were very scary.

As stated by Piccolo himself once that Goku could beat anyone in a fight but would never win a fight with Chi Chi his wife!

Another similarity I found and this one was sheer coincidence while I was reading about ‘Pain’ on the narutopedia.

It’s regard one of Pain bodie , the Naraka Path that had the abilitie to Judge a being and detect a lie from the truth. If you read the Trivia completely at the bottom it say this:

”Before being sent to the Naraka realm, the King of Hell, Yama, will be the judge of the dead. It’s believed that if you lie to him, he will rip out your tongue.”

And where did we see a King Yama?

That’s right , King Yama was the Judge of the dead in DBZ and the one that allowed Goku to reach King Kai so he could be trained and save his planet.

So far these are the similarity I found , I’m sure there are many others I missed. If you know of any feel free to add it in your comments . And if you disagree with anything I put here , please at least formulate a smart answer that explain why you disagree with me.

In all honesty I want you to think about this post. Name one manga where there isn't a charecter who loves food, or there isn't a dumb strong perv? All manga have these aspects, but I want to pick out one HUGE difference between DBZ and Naruto that blows them completely away from eachother, proving Naruto on a whole other level from DBZ. The level of emotion. When Vegeta died, most people thought it funny. (This before they found out he wasn't dead, or brought back to life or what not, as I can not remember) Most people probably got pissed and wanted to throw the book when Neji or Asuma died. This besides the point, the only moments I remember with a high level of emotion in DBZ are when Vegeta gave his speech to Goku while fighting Frieza, and when Krillin died.. though not so much. However Naruto inspires SO much emotion, the reason I like it better. When Naruto had his conversation with Nagato, when the Third died, in Naruto/Sasuke's flashbacks, when Sasuke was leaving Konohagakure and Sakura found him, in every ONE of the Naruto/Sasuke fights, when Asuma died, when Neji died, in the Naruto/Neji fight from the Chuunin exams. I can go ON and ON but for the sake of my fingers, I will not continue typing. There may be many similarities but there are also many differences. All manga find similarities of some sort. Also, since I know you are saying this as to prove your opinion of Naruto being bad, should I state some of the similarities DBZ has with Sonic? (I do admit there aren't as many. But every Shounin Jump manga has more, I want to state something that isn't as close in publishment)

So i had to make sure. On that note, I don't need to because it was already revealed that the creator of Sonic was a fan of DBZ and modified his game to reflect it. This is why Sonic 1 has 6 emeralds but 2 and on there are 7.

No, that's not how it happened. They have yet to uncover HOW there came to be a Seventh Chaos Emerald, but in the Comics, there were always seven.

As I stated ABOVE, this was only posted for fun. I never once said Naruto was bad. Don't put words in mouth. I said before that I felt it was a ripoff of DBZ and this was the evidence I found to support it. I'm fine with getting disproved, but don't say I said something I didn't okay? Other than that, Sonic has A LOT of similarities to Dragonball as well due to the creator being a fan of DBZ. Which is why he added the 7th Chaos Emerald and Super Sonic Transformation in Sonic 2.

Many of these similiarities are adaptable to basically every Shounen-Manga there is.

One Piece has Luffy as the hyperactive, food loving protagonist. Silver Reileigh is the old, grey-haired, smoking master, Nami the intelligent/scary chick and Roronoa is the badass friend that formerly looked down on Luffy.

Fairy Tail has even more similiarities: Natsu is hyperactive and loves food, Makarov is the old, grey-haired, smoker and perverted, Lucy is the intelligent chick and Erza the scary one and Grey is the arrogant friend.

As far as things like the judge of the dead go, it is either popular japanese mythology or just a simple reference to one of the greatest animes to ever be made.

That's true. I only knew enough about Naruto to compare it like I did. Never watched or read One Piece, never appealed to me.
