Local's Report #1 Empty
PostSubject: Local's Report #1   Local's Report #1 EmptySat Jul 06, 2013 6:03 pm

Oi guys.
Earlier today I attended my first locals, running my Constellars. I have been to the place several times before, although most times I was too late to actually participate in the tournament itself. This time, I decided, or rather forced myself, to get up a bit earlier and therefore finally get that earlier train I needed to catch.

Entry fee was 5€ and once I had my Cossy-ID (a special number every player gets to participate in official tournaments) I was pumped to start... just to get told the tournament was not starting for another 20 minutes. I spent that little gap with watching duels, skimming through card collections, trying to get a few trades.

Sign-ups closed with 16 participants signed in, meaning we would go 5 rounds of Swiss and have a top 4 cut. So, lets get into them duels:

Round 1
Constellars vs. Evilswarms

First match and I immediatly had to go against a guy I had been watching and talking too for a few couple of minutes beforehand.
I went into the match quite confident as I figuered the match up would be quite favourably for me, regarding that Ophion does not hit any of my summons, yet I was somewhat nervous. First tournament is never easy.
Game 1 I drew decently. I had to use both, ROTA and Tenki to search for Pollux and Kaus and make my 1st turn Pleiades. I set 2 and passed, pretty confident in my board. Unfortunatly, he opened way better than I did and after a Heavy Storm and a Dark Hole, I was left with 2 useless cards in my hand, namely Book of Moon and MST. From there he did all teh Evilswarm shennanigans and took the game pretty quickly.
Game 2 was a whole other story. I opened decently yet again and this time, I managed to actually keep my Pleiades on the field during his turn, whilst crippling his Rabbit play with my Veiler. Thinks went bad for him from there and I took the game just as quickly as he took the first.
Game 3 went a bit diffrently. We both opened bad and he just sat on his Thunderbird and I didn't have much to respond, so things stays quite unspectacular till I finally drew into my searchers. The Ophion he got out in the meantime wasn't too much trouble, as he had no means of defending it against my Pleiades. I ultimatly took game 3 and therefore my first win in the tournament.

Score: 1-0-0

Round 2
Constellars vs. Dragon Ruler

There was one single guy playing E-Drags out of the 16 participants, but of course, I had to go against him. I didn't quite know what to expect from him, as I never saw him play before, but E-Drags are always somewhat worrysome.
Game 1 he openend, did his discarding/banishing stuff and made a Dracossack + 2 Tokens. No backrow, so all I had to fear at that moment was a Veiler.
Tenki got me my Kaus and Pollux got him to the field. Luckily he had no answer to Kaus' effect just as he had no answer to Peiades effect. Goodbye Dracossack. His Big Eye in the following turn was Veilered, after I had to use Pleiades bouncing to get rid of a new Draco, and after my Volcasaurus-Gaia play he was left with a mere 3 LP which made him scoop.
Game 2 he opened Draco again, but yet again I got rid of it pretty quickly, thanks to the amazing Pleiades. The match went on, I lost my boss monster, he lost a few cards to my backrow and the moment I flipped Imperial Iron Wall on him he scooped yet again. Scrub.

Score: 2-0-0

Round 3
Constellar vs. Harpies

Didn't worry too much about this, as I knew he was playing a Rank 4-based deck and not the Rank 7 one.
Game 1 I assume he drew very badly. I opened Sheratan, set and passed. He set backrow, summoned Harpies Brother (which I think is going to be renamed soon enough), attacked and passed. I did my thing, got my Omega as I had no chance of going for a Rank 5 and sat on it. He didn't get anything out the following turns and I took the game.
Game 2 he opened pretty good and managed to make a Mirage Dragon in turn 2, which would have been a problem if not for the lucky Dark Hole I had. From there I had the game, as he wasted a lot of cards on getting Mirage out.

Score: 3-0-0

Round 4
Constellars vs. Frog Monarchs

At this point I was quite happy with my score and I was confident to be able to make it into the top 4 cut.
Game 1 was a disaster. He had Swap and double Treeborn, therefore a perfect set-up. Even though I managed to get out Pleiades in my first turn, his Battle Fader stopped my attack and when he activated Soul Exchange I had no choice but to bounce my own Pleiades, so he could not tribute it. He instead summoned Raiza, bounced my backrow, made Daigusto Phoenix with Ronin and I was left with nothing but a Sombre play, which got me a second Pleiades. Destroyed the Raiza, just to get Soul Exchanged again. Game right there.
Game 2 I opened with Kaus, Pollux and Algiedi. First Turn Shock Master. Game.
Game 3 was one hell of a ride. I made Pleiades, he made LADD, I got rid of it, he made it again, I managed to get it down to 1800 and beat over it with Kaus. He got a Raiza out in the following turn, bounced my Kaus. Luckily, he was at a low LP count, I drew back into the Kaus he just bounced to the top of my deck and attacked into Raiza... Honest did the rest.

Score: 4-0-0

Round 5:
Constellar Mirror

Going into Round 5 I was the only player that was still undefeated, which was quite surprising, really. Unfortunatly, things should change pretty quickly.
Game 1 I had nothing but backrow and spells and once he made Omega I was royally screwed.
Game 2 I had a few plays but he just had the better ones. Honest cost me my Pleiades and after that, I didn't have much to answer any of his plays.
It was a quick match as he usually was able to attack with his monsters before making a XYZ.

Score: 4-1-0

Looking at the overall score I wasn't really bothered by the loss, though. I had a certain spot in the top 4 and was 1 of 3 players with a 4-1 score. Namely, the guy I just lost to and the Harpie player I faced earlier. The 4th spot in the top 4 was determinded by tie-breaker as there where plenty of players that managed to go 3-2, including the Evilswarms I played against as well as the Forg player I managed to get over. Tie breaker decided and the Frog player got the spot, meaning I had faced all 3 of the other top 4 players before and knew what was coming my way.

Top 4, Semi-Finals
Constellars vs. Frog Monarchs

The guy was pumped to get his revenge and he got it game 1. After quite a long duel, he finally got his Obelisk out and my Dark Hole, and therefore only out to Obelisk, was nowhere to be seen. Well, lost to a God. That's fine.
Game 2 went completly diffrently. He couldnt deal with my Pleiades bouncing his only Treeborn and he didn't manage to get any of his Soul Exanges out.
Game 3 was a bit tougher again. An early LADD of his was quite a bit of trouble but a combination of Compuls and Veiler saved my ass after taking 2 directs from him. LADD bought him enough time, though, and next turn I had to face a Vanity's fiend, to which I luckily was able to respond with a Tenki and a Bear. Poped the Fiend, attacked, got another Tenki that I would use in my following turn to get Kaus, make Pleiades, bounce his Caius and make it game.

I actually made it to the finals, which was highly unexpected. And guess who my opponent was? Right, the other Constellar player.

Top 4, Finals
Constellar Mirror

Game 1 was basically a repitition of our first match. He just spammed, attacked. XYZ-summoned and I just set there, doing nothing.
Game 2 seemed to go the same path, till I got a Bear and managed to blow his Omega up, opening a lot more plays as I could now use my backrow succesfully. I turned the game around pretty quickly and with Pleiades out all he had left to do was to Cardcar and hope for a sack.
Game 3 finally turned things around and I had a pretty nice hand. 1st turn Pleiades followed by an Omega sealed the game pretty much, or so I thought. He burned thorugh Omegas Materials and managed to Dark Hole, obviouly trying to go for a big comeback push. Omega on the field again I saw my backrow becoming useless, and had to take a few its, till I got what I needed: A Constellar Monster. I summoned Pollux, attacked and Honest prived yet again why it needs to stay limited. Game through Honest for the 2nd time.

Prizes where quite dissappointing, really. I got 3 Hidden Arsenal 7, 3 Astral Turbo and 1 of the new Battle Packs, out of which I pulled about nothing. The most valuable card I got was the Infestation Trap Evilswarms run and a Mosaic rare Black Magician of Chaos. Well, whatever, I won the damned thing even though it was my first tournament, which left me quite happy, especially after having people say that Constellars could do nothing. Constellar Mirror Match in the finals proved them otherwise, I'd say.

Deck variety was certainly given. From what I saw, ther was 1x Tidal Mermails, 1x E-Dragons, 2x Chaos Dragons, 1x Frog Monarchs, 1x Harpies, 1x Wind-Up (although that was a dreadfull build), 1x Karakurik-Redox, 1x Heroes, 2x Hazy Flames, 2x Evilswarms and 2x Constellars. What the other 3 decks were, I don't really know, and I don't really care either.

It kinda settled as the tournament progressed. I did better than I expected and except for the Frog Monarchs I didn't really feel there was much of a challenge. I was kinda nervous going into the finale, as I had lost to the guy before, but I was certain that I could easily beat him if I would draw normally.
