Alright, i've been wanting to ask this for a while (This morning to be precise....). I wanted to know how everyone felt about this new anime (Every aspect, down to the entertainment dueling). I already know how 99.9% of you felt of Zexal (IT SUCKED! But the villains were decent. The Main Character was horrible for no reason. He pretty much sucked by himself. Some would argue the same for Yugi, but he already was good.) Pretty much everyone but Gobot (Aka Superion Maximus) hated it with the bottom of their hearts.

So...Post what you think about it here.

For those of you who didn't watch it yet: http://www.goodanime.net/yu-gi-oh-arc-v-episode-1

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion Empty
PostSubject: Re: Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion   Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion EmptySun Apr 13, 2014 4:40 am

After watching the first episode, I can honestly say I'm disappointed. Entertainment dueling? Give me a break. I get dueling is about fun but this takes it to such a fruity level. I myself (as I'm sure I've stated dozens of times) am more of a fan of the original series of yugioh. As the series' went on the quality of dueling has decreased miserably. The concept of dueling academies in GX was a really cool idea as I'm sure a lot of people agree. The storyline and overall most of the characters though were just flat out stupid. Then we get to card games on motorcycles where the cards magically don't fly off as you're going like 50mph. Zexal was just...really bad. Now we get to this.

Entertainment dueling makes me think that this show is practically for little kids. When I was young you know what I watched? Dark Magician going face to face with Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Shit was so intense. Going from a tournament on a massive island to save Yugi's grandfather from a soul taking maniac, to an organization set on sending people to the shadow realm over pieces of cardboard, to the Seal of Orichalcos taking souls to fuel some ancient dragon, etc etc, all the way to the end where Yugi faces the best friend he's made within the millennium puzzle in one final duel. THAT was entertainment.

Now yea some parts of the original yugioh series were a little weird and some were flat out stupid, but it was more than just a kids show. It was in between the mix of slightly more violent and intense enough for a little kids show, but not violent enough to the point of like...Bleach. It felt like an actual show. Here in Arc V I feel like I may as well sit down with a bunch of 5 year olds and cheer on Yuya as he's riding around on his fruity looking hippo.

Another thing that overall gets under my skin is the kid's deck. A pink hippo he rides around on, a cobra with a top hat, a (sword)fish, and Odd-Eyes Dragon. This has to be the douchiest main character deck I've ever seen in my life. Not to be glorifying Yugi in his infinite king-of-gamesism (is that even a word?) but I mean look at his deck. TOTALLY inconsistent as balls, but at least the monsters were pretty cool. Dark Magician, Summoned Skull, Gaia the Dragon Champion, Magician of Black Chaos, Black Luster Soldier, etc. THOSE WERE SOME COOL ASS MONSTERS. Now the monsters that define our main character, and our hero in this tale, is... a cobra with a top hat? What the hell already. Like, if I ran into a dark alley and Yugi Moto with his hardcore monsters were in my way, I'd give the kid my wallet and step back. If I ran into Yuya? Oh yea his entertainment sure would make me laugh alright. Laugh my way into crying at how pathetic his deck is. The deck looks so noob I could take it down with Science Soldier ffs. LIKE LOOK AT THIS THING

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion A8002888

His main deck 'ace' is Odd-Eyes Dragon. What the fuck kind of a name is that. It sounds like it looks about as dopey as dragonite. I don't even care for its appearance either. It doesn't even look remotely threatening. It doesn't give me the feeling of "oh wow I'm fucked" if I'm facing it. Dark Magician, Neos, Stardust Dragon, hell even Utopia made me look at the main characters like "Those are some cool ace cards!" but this thing is just a joke. Aside from the fact that its hanging around with some losers like Mr. Swordfish and breast cancer hippo, it just doesn't even look or sound the part of a good ace monster.

So someone please tell me what happens when the computer system malfunctions as you're riding on this strawberry yogurt colored hippo? As I saw within the first 2 minutes of the episode, reality + gravity kicks in and you fall on your face like the sad excuse of the duelist you are. The fuck happens if you're in that big stadium he was facing the champion in and you're like "lol ridin' mai drag0n oshit internet went down fu"?  You fall to the ground and either severely injure yourself to the point of life-long paralysis or you just die.

Can I also add that his father looks like a pedo? I bet the reason he missed that duel with Strong was because he was in his van strolling around town selling candy to little kids. Why has he been gone for 3 years? Probably still serving his sentence in federal prison. I'm sure he's entertaining people in prison by the fact that he's in a cell with a 6' 2" gangster serving a 35 year sentence for credit card fraud, arson, and armed robbery. "What you in for, dog?" "Oh... uhh.. selling candy to kids via entertainment dueling?" "We don't like your kind here. NOW PICK UP THE SOAP" I see his son is taking after him nicely.

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion 54196ac5

It's working I see

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion 455a0db8

Also, why the hell is there a star on his right goggle? Like, can he even see out of that thing? Probably there because he hopes he can be a 'star' pedo like his dad selling candy to kids from a van (hippo) that he rides around town.

A champion with Battleguards as a main deck? Hell I may as well been the champion back in my days of maining Horus the Black Flame Dragon. You can't be serious. Their star duelist of their academy is running BATTLEGUARDS? Can you say noob? First turn you literally cut your hand into shit to summon Lava and Swamp Battleguard. Then you're like "Oh I'm gonna tribute these two to summon..." No. No. No. You overlay them. Make Volcasarus, Adreus, Tiras, SOMETHING. No. You summon some barbarian monster that looks like it should be in Planet Of The Apes. "fl0f ur nub y volc fgt" Oh idk blow up fgt hippo and then overlay into Gaia and attack this kid for near game? Let me take a crack at this 'champion' and I'll show you 10 reasons why you don't run Battleguards. His name is Strong. Were his parents crack addicts or..?

Anyone else notice how his mom is just there like "lol hi" in the middle of the duel? Prob was busy visiting his dad in prison. He still has another 7 years to serve, ya know.

And who could forget that final draw in the episode where he just ripped the card from the top of his deck like "AAARRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!" He prob shit himself drawing that card. If his goal is entertainment, that sure made me entertained enough to close out the page.

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion Ed616c1f

I also think entertainment dueling has to do with being a stripper. Why? Oh idk...

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion E7057132

Did anyone else catch the MASSIVE rivers pouring out of his eyes? Like holy shit.

Yu-Gi-Oh Arc V Discussion 0ef1e133

If you tl;dr, I don't like the show and I feel poisoned for even watching the first episode.

Here's What I think:

I think it's decent so far. I mean he did fill his decks with stupid monsters and acts stupid, but so people don't laugh at him, just with him. True his father left (But no one quite knows why). If your father just kinda left you, you'd be crying rivers too (I certainly did...). And even though he may act stupid, THIS KIDS GOT SKILLS! He obviously is a far better duelist than our previous Main Character. I'm not a fan of his Main Monster (Because only Rivals Have had an -Eyes card. EX: Joey, Kaiba, Kalin Kessler, Kite Tenjo.) But it's decent, I wish it's effect was slightly better though (I mean...only half damage? Your supposed to nerf the opponent's monsters, not the main characters!)

With time (And some growing up, and a new deck...), he could possibly be my favorite main character (SURPRISE! I don't have one Very Happy. My favorite character is Syrus, who sadly isn't a main character.) As for the dueling, it makes me annoyed. I have devpro so I play by these rules already. It's majorly difficult to go first now, you only get 5 cards and you cant attack. Everyone should be going 2nd from now on just because you cant draw all 6 cards and attack. As for the whole entertainment dueling, it's stupid. What more is there to say? Who needs to be entertained? I certainly don't, I duel for destruction, for just the hell of beating people sometimes, to prove something, or just for fun (Kinda like how it was intended for?) I think it's stupid, I think making a school for it is stupid, I think wasting time on it is stupid.

He could use some work, but we can all agree Very Happy he is better than Yuma. He has time to change though, and like vent said he may get those Magiquipped guys. And if this show does end up turning for the worst, BACK TO GX!

1: literally anyone could beat battleguards but yuya needed hacks XD

2: Burning half damage is pretty broken as is

3: action duels took the skill out of dueling its literally more about searching around for cards

4: Character decks don't change much from the beginning entermates are here to stay XD

5: hes worse then yuma XD I think konami literally thought "Everyone thinks that zexal was the worst season ever. They havn't seen anything yet!"

1: What he did first turn would be hard to counter with Yuya's hand/field.

2: Not really....

3: I half agree....there is some skill involved....

4: Didn't Jaden get Neo Spacians and Neos?

5: Nah, unlike Yuma this guy can redeem himself. So far not bad, but he could change Neutral .

1: its called any monster removel in the entire game besides for action cards which he has no guarantee of having he dosnt even have much to stop attacks with

2: thats normal since gx. if a monster isnt the main type the show features(in this case pendulum)(and odd eyes pendulum does have a broken eff XD) its rare for them to have great effects

3: he only played 1 spell card from his deck the rest were cards he had to find . using action cards is more about luck then skill. just like when battleguard attacked and he barly got to one in time.

4: jaden didn't stop using heros even after getting neos. plus even if he does use magitequipped they make look better but still have bad effects

5: Yuma did redeem himself XD besides there is no redemption for riding a pink hippo

Ok, on As personal level. I found Yuma to be annoying. His vice actors, both of them. And his general childishness. However, that's just me. I'm not too fond of idiocy, or innocence. Both of which, fan or not, you must admit Yuma personified. Yugi on the other hand, though innocent, had his dark side, the pharaoh. That said, I wasn't terribly find of "Yugi Moto" either. And it's safe to say I was also not a Jaden fan. Out f the main characters, if you take away the pharaoh, his is hands down my favorite character, then my new favorite becomes Yusie, no doubt about it.

But getting back on track, my own personal motions aside. I simply wasn't a fan of the fact Yuma was supposed to be the "Hero" and rarely every acted like one. Sure, he was brave. But bravery is a rather useless, if not novel and even dangerous emotion at best. Bravery, does not guarantee your success. Something Zexal seemed to like to stress. That if you just keep trying, and reach for the sky, you might just actually make it. Truth behind the story is you might also die. Or fail. Perhaps even fail so hard it beaks your spirit, sends you spiraling into a loop of positive feed back where your own, suffocating negative emotions feed themselves, and you realize... For the first time... Your childish dreams amount to nothing but unobtainable fantasy.

Basically, there just wasn't enough darkness in the anime for me. What little they did have usually seemed manic or insane. When in reality, despair and sadness can be MUCH more subtle. Something the ORIGINAL series demonstrated well.

So yea, a happy go lucky, blissfully ignorant, hopeful cheerful main character who always magically wins even when he sucks... Just wasn't for me. Now, if your into the whole bright cheerful thing, I can understand how zexal was appealing. And yes, I watched the series. There were moments where I enjoyed it a lot. And over all, I'm happy I watched it. But out of the current series, Yuma is prolly. Y least favorite character. Again, needed a touch of darkness.

OH AND ONE MORE THING THAT PISSED ME OFF!

zexal copied dragon ball z. And don't EVEN try and tell me the didn't. Let's look at the obvious. All known fact. Yumas eyes change colors, his hair turns gold, he gets a golden, flame like aura. And he can fly.

But then there's the secret, more subtle mockery they put in there. You as dad. Aka, voiced by the same voice actor as Goku, whom coincidentally hasn't done crap with his career in years.

Neutral

That sort or hit a nerve, cuz DBZ holds a special place in my heart, being a 90s kid and all.

Now, concerning arc V I'll elaborate more in my next post and cut this one short. Due to the fact I've already made you guys read a pretty lengthy rant. But in short. People resist change, and I like it. The main character having a "eyes" dragon is interesting, and adds a bit of mystery I'd like to know more about. The art work this time round is nicely done. I liked zexals as well. The pendulum summoning itself is a cool concept to me, and the entertainment duels is also not so bad to me. Because the show is trying to emphasis WHY people duel. Making a global economic industry is a perfect way to do that, and there is no bigger industry than entertainment.

If we had giant real life monsters that lived in cards, you guys know for a fact it would be on tv. XD so I find it realistic, rather than stupid.

So there :p

As a general rule, Zexal sucked. Period. The only good part about it was the introduction of Xyz monsters, specificlly Number Cards. After the original yugioh series the quality of the game and shows declined until Konami finally hit rock bottom.
