PostSubject: Ra Yellow Lesson 10   Mon Apr 29, 2013 3:45 am

Good day Ra Yellow. I have to say I am a little disappointed we didn't get as much response for last week's lesson but I will do my best to make this week a better one.

This week, we will be examining Forbidden Cards.

Now we all know what a forbidden card is, but I will reitterate all the same. A Forbidden card is a card in the YuGiOh! card game that is not permitted to be used in Advanced Format and is treated as Limited in Traditional Format. Many of the game's most powerful cards have spent some time on this list, including Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning and even Mirror Force.

Other cards that have been limited for a long time have been recently banned, such as Future Fusion and Sangan. The reason? They were used in plays that just made the card too powerful. Yet Konami has seen fit to legalize some cards after several formats. I'm looking at you Black Luster Soldier. A lot of cards we will probably never see in Advanced play again and some we may yet get to see once more. Some cards were banned due to their involvement in an overpowered combo, but Konami took it a step further with some and just outright banned all cards involved, such as Magician of Faith - Metamorposis - Thousand-Eyes Restrict, but do these cards all still deserve a spot on the banned list? Are they truly overpowered or "broken" anymore?

So what happpened to get these cards a spot on the Forbidden List? Well that's where our homework comes in. I want each of you to choose a card on the Forbidden List and tell me why it was banned. You may need to do a little research for this one and as such I will be awarding 100 to 200 OD on this homework depending on how well you do on this homework. I want you to not only explain why it was banned, I want you to SHOW me why. That's right, Dueling time. You may either build a new deck for your card or simply add it to your deck but Screen Cap the moment you Play it or Win the Duel because of it. Be more creative though, try to avoid the cards that are banned for obvious reasons, like Dark Strike Fighter or Card of Safe Return.

Cards not acceptable for homework:
Victory Dragon
Pot of Greed
Graceful Charity
Harpie's Feather Duster
Raigeki
Card of Safe Return

So to recap on the goal of the homework. Pick a Banned card, tell me what makes it banned, use it in a duel and screenshot showing me why it is banned, and then wrap up your homework with an answer to this: Should this card remained Forbidden or should it come back in the near future?

As always, this is due by Sunday night. Grades(OD) will be given out next Monday when I post our next lesson.

Well the card I choose is Temple Of The Kings. It can let you play traps the turn you set them which can be great cause stuff like Mystical Space Typhoon can wreak your duel. It also lets you send it and a Mystical Beast Of Serket to the grave to summon any monster from your hand, deck or grave, which can also give you a high advantage depending on the monster, but your likely to summon a game changer. Cards like Card Guard can protect it long enough for you to do stuff Razz. Well that's about it, hope I did well. Use this card with Dust tornado and you my friend, have got yourself a good strategy. This could also function quite well with Fire Fist if you want more power fast.

Good explanation so far TC. Temple of the Kings also allows for an near instant Xyz by setting 2 Trap Monsters like Zoma the Spirit and then Overlaying the. The fact that Temple can also Special Summon from your EXTRA DECK however is possibly more powerful than its Trap effect.

Now I just need to ee you use Temple in a duel and screen shot it.

Well, you know, again, probably what I'm picking this time around. Hell, you even mentioned him in the example list up there: Thousand-Eyes Restrict.

I will admit, it is a powerful monster. His ability to lock all other monsters from attacking, along with his Relinquished equipping ability, are very useful in a deck that's goal is to stall out your opponent. That, and at the time of his banning there were several cards that could easily bring him into play. You mentioned Metamorposis, but there's also Magical Scientist that pretty much makes him a 'pay 1000 life points, send an opponent's monster to the graveyard.' Although Instant Fusion is still legal, and that will let you summon him via Fusion, allowing him to be revived proper. That alone still makes it so he can be summoned easily outside Poly.

However, his only major power is his attack lockdown. He's still easy to remove, especially without an equiptment. You can just wait til it swings and Mystical Space Typhoon the monster it's equipted with, even. Almost all traps can deal with him, Compulsory and Dimensional Prison come to mind due to making it a lot harder to get him back. Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning and Chaos Sorcerer (or as I like to call them, the Chaos Brothers) can both just outright remove him, as can any other card with a similar effect, due to him only stopping attacks. Also, on that note, Restrict also keeps your other monsters from attacking, so you can't really beat someone down with him like you could Relinquished.

There are some good reasons he's banned, but I doubt any deck will have problems removing him. At least, no more so then Soldier. With most of the ways he was speed-summoned out banned, I doubt he'd be nearly as powerful as he once was. I would say he should be limited to just 1, though, as more then than and it will become a serious issue for most decks to fight back from just that card. At 1, it's not as big of a game-changer as many of the other cards removed from the ban list.

And, I do not have a deck built with him in it... yet. I've never gotten to use him, as I don't own one. I will build a deck utilizing him as a one-of, keeping all the easy ways to get him (aside from the completely legal Instant Fusion) out of it. I'll post the pics once I get the deck build in a way I like. After all, if I like the way it runs I may keep it.

Annnnd... There. I've built a modified version of my Relinquished deck, and put him in there. After all, Restrict is the fusion of him. So, here is my screencap of me using him. My opponent never let it survive, or even use it's effect, for even a single turn.

And, there. I got my homework done on time this time.
